Dyscalculia

Dyscalculia is a specific learning difficulty that affects a person's ability to understand and work with numbers. It can make everyday mathematical tasks more challenging, including counting, remembering number facts, understanding mathematical concepts, telling the time, handling money, and solving calculations.

Like dyslexia, dyscalculia varies from person to person. Some individuals may struggle with basic number skills from an early age, while others develop strategies to cope but continue to find maths difficult throughout school, higher education, and adulthood.

Dyscalculia is not linked to intelligence or motivation. Many people with dyscalculia are capable learners who simply process numerical information differently. Identifying dyscalculia can help individuals better understand their challenges and access the appropriate support, strategies, and adjustments needed to succeed.

A specialist assessment can provide a clearer understanding of an individual's mathematical strengths and difficulties, helping to inform targeted support at school, college, university, or in the workplace.

Coming Soon

A comprehensive dyscalculia assessment typically takes between 3 and 4 hours to complete and is usually carried out over two sessions to ensure the individual is comfortable and able to perform at their best.

The assessment includes a range of standardised tests that explore cognitive abilities, information processing skills, literacy attainment, and mathematical understanding. A variety of numeracy tasks are used to build a detailed picture of an individual's strengths and areas of difficulty.

Following the assessment, a comprehensive written report is provided. The report outlines the findings and includes tailored recommendations to support learning, teaching, and intervention both in educational settings and beyond.

Dyscalculia Screening
£190 face to face

This 2-hour screening assessment provides an overview of an individual’s mathematical strengths and areas of difficulty, helping to identify indicators commonly associated with dyscalculia.

The assessment includes a range of targeted activities designed to explore number sense, mathematical reasoning, calculation skills, and other key areas of numeracy. It offers valuable insight into how an individual processes and approaches mathematical information.

Following the assessment, a concise written report (approximately 4–6 pages) is provided. This outlines the findings and includes clear, practical recommendations to support learning at home, in school, college, or the workplace.

A dyscalculia screening is a useful first step for those experiencing ongoing difficulties with maths and can help determine whether a full diagnostic assessment may be appropriate.
